Stretching - the Importance

This website for runners is amazing! I have used it quite a few times and have shared it in my classes, with my clients, and my running friends. It really seems to make the body do the things in better form. After a long run, it's such a nice release to stretch out - but to have so many cool stretches, makes it even better. It's easier to run the next day or two.

Stretching and warming up are critical when it comes to any type of working out. Whether you are cross training, taking a Pilates class, cycling through a Spin class, or going out for a run ~ warming up and cooling down are as important as doing the actual exercise....if not better.

Key note to ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS remember ---> static (holding the stretch in one position for a period of time) stretching is for the cool down - the after part of your workout. If you just stretch into one move and hold it and then do another stretch and hold it, you are pretty much putting your muscles back in square one. This is what you want at the end. Put your body back to the beginning. So instead, you want to slowly move and breathe into each stretch. Constantly moving into a stretch. Examples would be easy jogging in place for a minute OR reaching your hands above your head and grasping each hand and pulling over to the side and stretching out the obliques (sides of your belly)

After you done, you can hold your stretch as long as you want!

HAPPY STRETCHING!

AND REACH FOR THE SUN!

Just had to blog about running today. I haven't ran since Nov 12th - unless you want to count the 1/4 of a mile that I tried to run a couple of weeks ago. My ankle is still not completely up to par which means still no running. The only positive aspect I bring out of this is that at least it isn't summer.

I SO MISS RUNNING. :(

Run Free

Yesterday morning I got up and decided to go for an "earlier" morning run. Alone. 6 miles. It was probably the most beautiful and refreshing run I have had all summer. Just kind of cleansed myself and connected with nature. I have literally been on a runner's high since yesterday. Can I get another day please? Just like that one!

10/21/2012

I can't believe that I actually ran a half marathon! Seriously! If you would have asked me about doing this five years ago, I would have laughed in your face....and then lit up another cigarette. Now, five years after I quit, I can't get enough of running and wouldn't think about lighting up! I love running and the more I do, the better I feel.

But this sticker is what I have been wanting for about a year now! And the time has finally come! It is on my jeep! Right above my running sticker! There is one more sticker I want to get about running and then I should be good. Wish I could find a cover for my tire. That would be awesome! :)
What a GREAT day!

Looking forward to next year!

So close!

6 days and counting! That's it! I don't believe that I have trained enough for my goal but I know that I have trained enough to finish. I ran 11 miles last Sunday and 8 miles yesterday with my first four miles (alone) was averaged at 8:57 for time and the last four (with a friend) was averaged at 10:07 and felt great after it....could have ran more but I didn't want to overdo it with my race being only 7 days away.

I'M READY!

Sunshine!

There is actual sunshine outside. I can't believe it! Ohio and there is sunshine. Oh wait, it's only 43 degrees out there. Looks are so deceiving but at least I can smile with the sun! It should get up to mid 50's today so that won't be as bad as yesterday. Ran 2.64 miles and couldn't handle the wind. My ears hurt too bad. I didn't realize it was as bad as it was until I was already out in the middle of the trail. Dawes. One of my favorite places to run. I have found that running near the lake is very soothing as well.

So I am sitting here at my desk in my house, researching ideas for Pilates. This class is a personal favorite but still challenges me to come up with new ideas to work the core. My coffee is now cold.....but I am rolling with my thoughts and my research. Too many things at once to describe what I am seeing and feeling.

Next blog.......training for the HALF!
